Public Programs

Shenandoah Valley Head Start

Age: 3 years old by September 30
Locations: Stone Spring Elementary School in Harrisonburg
Transportation: Provided for children living within the school zone
Cost: Free to those who are eligible and accepted
Hours: Same as Stone Spring Elementary School (9:10 AM-3:20 PM)

Harrisonburg City Public Schools Preschool Program

Age: 3 or 4 years old by September 30th of enrolling year
Locations: Keister Elementary, Elon Rhodes Early Learning Center, Roberta Webb Childcare Center, Shenandoah Valley Child Development Center, Harrisonburg/Rockingham Daycare, Generations Crossing, JMU YCP program.
Early Childhood Special Education: Offered at all locations. Call the welcome center to learn more.
Transportation: Provided for children living within the school zone
Cost: Free to those who are eligible and accepted
Hours: 9:10 AM – 3:20 PM

Rockingham County Public Schools Pre-K Program

Age: 4 years old by September 30 of enrolling year
Locations:  Rockingham County Elementary Schools
Transportation: Provided for children living within the school zone
Cost: Free to those who are eligible and accepted
Hours: 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Mixed Delivery Program at Private Childcare Centers

Age: 3 or 4 years old by September 30 of enrolling year
Locations: Private childcare centers throughout Harrisonburg City and Rockingham County
Transportation: None
Cost: Free to those who are eligible and accepted
Hours: Varies, check website for detailed info

Early Childhood Care and Education Centers

Age: Birth-5
Locations: Varies
Transportation: Must provide own transportation
Cost: Varies
Hours: Varies based on facility
Visit: Apply for subsidy online at Virginia CommonHelp or reach out to your local department of social services for assistance.
